Dr. Ed Pratt-Dannals is a Senior Advisor at District Management Group, bringing a deep understanding of public education to all of the projects that he is involved with. Previously, Dr. Pratt-Dannals served as Superintendent of Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) for five years where he was responsible for operating the nation’s 20th largest school district, with 172 schools, 123,000 students and 14,000+ employees.

During his tenure at DCPS, graduation rates increased from 55.8% to 72.1% (Federal Rate); students completing a college-ready curriculum increased from 65.7% to 82.9%; high schools with an A, B, or C state grade rose from 31.6% to 100%; college-level tests and courses passed (AP, IB, AICE, DE) rose from 8,582 to 14, 887 (74% increase); students in career academies rose from 2,782 to 9,873 (255% increase); major conduct violations fell from 8080 to 4314 (46.6%); and the number of mentors increased from 2,086 to 4,183 (101%). Partnerships with non-profits, businesses, and educational organizations were dramatically expanded, bringing resources, talent, and commitment toward a community-wide effort to improve outcomes for students. DCPS also successfully implemented a five-year strategic plan and secured district accreditation from Advanced Ed (formerly SACS/CASI).

Dr. Pratt-Dannals is a 36-year veteran of DCPS, beginning his career in 1976 as a math teacher and coach at John Gorrie Jr. High School and rising through the ranks as Vice Principal and Principal at various schools in the district, Regional Superintendent, and Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instructional Services. He was appointed as Chief Academic Officer in 2006.

Dr. Pratt-Dannals holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Florida. The title of his dissertation was “Effectively Implementing Strategic Planning in Large Urban School Districts: The Perspective of Florida Superintendents.” He holds a master’s degree in education from the University of North Florida, and a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University.
