About Wai-Yan

Wai-Yan Sun is Vice President of Finance at DMGroup. In this role, she leads DMGroup’s Finance Team and oversees the company’s overall financial management and planning. Having served in numerous leadership positions for technology and manufacturing companies at all stages of growth, Wai-Yan brings a unique perspective together with deep executive-level finance experience to DMGroup.

Prior to joining DMGroup, Wai-Yan was a CFO consultant for several technology and e-commerce companies over many years, where she advised CEOs/Founders on strategic planning, organizations, and operations. Most recently, she held a full-time position as Global CFO for Bennett and Company in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Previously, she was the Finance Officer, Corporate Controller, and Treasurer of Rakuten USA, where she executed M&A transactions, managed post-merger integration efforts, and oversaw the controllership function of eight US subsidiaries. Earlier in her career, Wai-Yan served as a finance executive for division/subsidiary of large companies such as Corning, Inc., and Eaton Corporation. She has also held CFO roles at early-stage companies such as TEI Biosciences and Harmonic Drive Technologies, where she built teams and infrastructure designed for growth, bringing each company to profitability through increased revenue and cost-reduction strategies.

Wai-Yan was born in Shanghai, raised in Hong Kong, and has lived in the United States since college. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Applied Math from the University of Massachusetts (Boston) and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Boston College. Wai-Yan is fluent in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin). She is currently an audit committee member of The Society of Arts & Crafts; previously, a Trustee and Finance Committee member of Discovering Justice from 2007-2011.
